Weekend trip to lake Michigan

My (now ex) boyfriend and I now go on drives every weekend around our little circle of towns.  Yesterday for our drive, we decided to go a little further out and visit someplace neither of us have been in a long time.  Lake Michigan in the winter time!

I’ve got to admit, the long drive didn’t seem as long when we had the radio cranked up and I was in such good company.  I’ what felt like no time at all, we were pulling into the parking lot of silver beach and bundling up for the freezing cold walk along the windy sandy beach.

It was amazing to see what the waves did to the snow/ice by the shore!  The waves left huge cliffs of ice along the bank of the beach, and there were dozens of seagulls floating on random pieces of ice out in the lake.

While walking along the beach, my boyfriend Cody managed to find a green piece of beach glass.  We were both surprised to find beach glass with all of the snow and ice around!  We took a few pictures while we were out, but the wind was blowing pretty good and we couldn’t stay long without freezing to death!

Cody took this picture of me with the ice from the lake in the background, he kept telling me to ‘look warmer’ because I was freezing!  We headed back to the truck right after this was taken (which was perfect timing because it started snowing right after we got to the truck).

It had been years since I’d been to lake Michigan, and Cody had never been to lake Michigan during the winter time.  We had a great time at the beach (despite the cold), and promised each other that we would return when the weather got warmer.

Lessons for the day:  Bring a warmer coat and plenty of kleenex’s next time I go to a beach in the winter!!  And always go with good company, it makes the drive feel shorter.

I hope y’all had a great weekend as well!  Stay warm, enjoy the last few weeks of winter, and hug your loved ones today! 😁
