You know you’re a homesteader when:
You have more work clothes than dress clothes
~
You are more excited about seed catalogs than current event magazines
~
You’d rather be doing yard work than sitting inside all day
~
ANIMALS decide how early you get up
~
30 minutes to the nearest store is a short trip
~
Winter is your least favorite season because you can’t garden (but you get a break from yard work)
~
Planning your gardens takes many days, multiple books, and a lot of time on Pinterest
~
Your therapy involves talking to animals, or weeding the gardens
~
When someone asks what you want for your birthday/Christmas, you bring out a farming/homesteading magazines to show them what you want
~
Every animal on your property has a name, (birds, squirrels, rabbits, stray cats, raccoons, etc.) but you still know that some of them will end up on the table
You love the smell of wood smoke
~
You love rainy days, because it means you don’t have to water your gardens, and inside work can finally get done
~
Spring and Fall are your favorite seasons; Growing Season and Harvesting Season
~
You tell time through seasons
~
You spend more time outside than inside
~
You can name more types of chickens than Kardashians
~
You are not afraid to get dirty
You get a hole in your clothes and you fix it instead of throwing it out
~
You have a constantly growing pile of clothes that need sewn / fixed / repurposed
~
Your food scraps make great compost (or animal food)
~
‘Eating out’ means a picnic in the park
~
The smell of dirt and animal poop reminds you of home
~
You own more boots than any other type of foot wear
~
Your idea of a great day involves never having to leave the property
~
Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner all come from your yard
~
You get a bouquet of flowers and your first thought is ‘I could save the seeds from these!’
Is there anything that you think needs added to the list? What makes you look at your life and go ‘Yup, I know I’m a homesteader when..’?

Love this!!!! I would just adjust the rain one to “you love when it rains because it reveals your rain tanks!” and here in Northwest Oregon, “your entire existence is dictated by when the sun comes out (outdoor projects rule, everything else gets put aside)” and I’d probably also add “you don’t schedule any vacations in late summer or fall because you know that’s harvest and canning season!” 😁😁😁

Those are perfect additions! Outdoor projects are definitely better! And I can’t imagine anyone crazy enough to plan a vacation around late summer and early fall! Way to much to harvest and do, along with getting ready for winter! 😂 Thanks for the additions! 😁
