What you need:

  • A few large plastic bottles
  • Paint and paintbrushes
  • Things to decorate with (beads, string, shells, etc.)
  • Hot glue gun or other strong glue (Warning: A hot glue gun causes the plastic bottle to bend and warp.)
  • Scissors or a knife
  • String or wire
  • Duct tape

How to make a birdhouse:

Step 1. Cut a small hole a few inches from the bottom of the bottle. (This is where the birds will fly in.)

Step 2. Paint the birdhouse anyway you want, allow to dry.

Step 3. Decorate however you want!  Let your imagination run wild!

Step 4. Remember to add a perch right outside of the hole so that the birds have something to land on!

Step 5. Poke two holes in the top of the container by the lid and add string (or wire) to hang them up with!

Step 6. Hang them up outside!

How to make a bird feeder:

Step 1. Cut the plastic bottle in half (make sure that the bottom half is 1-2 inches longer than the top half).

Step 2. Cut a large hole in the bottom half (this is what the birds will eat out of).

Step 3. Place the top of the bottle into the bottom of the bottle so that the top is facing down, like so:

Step 4. Duct tape those two pieces together.

Step 5. Cut another bottle in half (bottle #2).  Attach the top of the bottle #2, to the top of your bird feeder to make a ‘whole bottle’ again.  Duct tape it to keep it together.

Step 6. Paint and allow to dry, then decorate any way you want! (I added an awning out of beads to keep the snow/rain out of it!)

Step 7. Remember to add a perch right outside of the hole so that the birds have something to land on!

Step 8. Poke two holes in the top and add string (or wire) to hang them up with!

Step 9. Add birdseed to the top of the bottle.  As the birds eat, it will slowly replenish it for you!
