To the wise man who made me smile today.. Thank you.

Today, I was working at the checkout counter of my store, like any ol’ night, and this older gentleman walked up to buy something.

I honestly can’t remember what he bought, but I sure do remember what he said.

I asked him my standard greeting of, “Hi there, having a good day?

You know, I am having a great day!” The man responded. “In fact, I think that WE decide whether or not we’re going to have a great day today!” And even though he had a mask on, I could see his smile through the brightness in his eyes.

How right you are!” I agreed, nodding my head and smiling. I scanned his items one by one and placed them in our bright yellow bags as he continued to talk.

You know, there are all of these people out there who choose to have a bad day, and yell at other people because they think that will help, but it doesn’t.” The man continued on as he pulled his money out to pay for his items. “You can’t control the situation, but you can control the way you react to it.” He quoted.

I had to agree with him once again, telling him that my own mother had always asked us after we threw a fit ‘if we felt better’. (Which we didn’t.) I then proceeded to tell him that; ‘I wake up every day with a smile on my face, and I tell myself that it’s going to be a great day today‘.

At this, he laughed and told me that I was doing it right.

He then went on to say; “You know, there’s this man that I always pass on my way out from work, because he works the shift after me, and one day this man tells me ‘I wish I could be like you, you’re always happy even though you’re coming out of work‘. And I told him ‘no my friend, don’t be me. Be like you! Be the best you you can be!‘”

At this point, I was sure that this man was going to tell me that he worked as a motivational speaker or something.. He was so genuine in the way that he told his story, I felt like he was giving me a pep talk!

After his items were paid for, he looked me dead in the eyes and said ‘You have a great night now, okay?‘ Again, so he sounded so genuine that I felt like he truly wanted me to have a good night! I nodded, smiled back, and said ‘you too.’

And just like that he was gone..

I believe that people come into our lives for a reason.

I believe that this whole world is connected through little strands that make everyone interconnected.

And finally, I believe that this wise man was sent to my store that night, to let me know that I was on the right track by spreading kindness through my words and actions.

Tell me your thoughts on the subject in the comments below! And as always, start every day with a smile, have a great day, and remember that you decide how your day turns out! (So make it a good one!)
