How to Make a Christmas Tea Advent Calendar

Every year I try to make something special for my family for Christmas. This year, with all of the sickies getting everyone down, I decided that an advent tea advent calendar was a good idea. The idea of making an advent calendar with tea in it has been one that I’ve had in the back of my mind for a few years now, but I’ve never had the money or means to actually do it. This year, however, I was able to put one together!

It was super easy to do but very time consuming as I had to make three of them. It took me about 2-3 hours to do everything. However, that was with taking pictures and trying to find out how I was going to do everything, If you would like to do it too, there is a step by step below!

What you need:

  • 24-25 Tea bags (per person)
  • Index cards
  • Tape
  • 1 decretive box (per person)
  • Marker

First you need a box. Not too big, and not too small.. (Mine may have been a ‘bit’ too big as there was leftover room..)

Next, get your index cards and fold them in half to make a square. Tape the left and right sides of the paper, with the folded part at the bottom and the top part open so that you can slip the teabags in them. I used colorful index cards because they were what I had, but you can use any color you want. (Make sure to make a few extra in case you mess up with the cards!)

Next, label all of the cards with dates. I did mine from December 1st to December 25th just because I wanted my family to have hot tea Christmas morning as well as the Christmas Eve.

After you get the cards done, make sure to take your box and add dividers into it. (Use the cards to measure how wide the dividers need to be.) All I did to mine was bend two index cards (per divider) and tape them to the bottom of the box to make my rows for the cards, then I taped the cards to each other so that they created a sturdy wall divider.

Now it’s time to fill those index cards with your tea bags and put them in in your box!

Finally, it’s time to sit back and admire all of your hard work!

I made three total: One for my mother, and one for each of my grandmothers. They all get the same tea bags in all of their boxes, plus ‘extra’ for my mother and ‘guest’ ones for one of my grandmothers. When Christmas is over everyone can still use their boxes as tea boxes year round!

Let me know if you guys try this and if you did anything different than I did! Remember to be creative and to think outside the tea box! 😉🎄☕🎁 Is this project not your ‘cup of tea’? Check out my post for how to make a handmade tacklebox present for that special man in your life!

As always, smile, have a great day, and enjoy a cup of tea!
