Our Viking/Celtic/Renaissance Wedding Reception

~

So, my fiancé husband and I got married..

We had a simple handfasting ceremony at our house and a reception at the local park with family and friends.

The ceremony was short and sweet, and the reception was perfect! Here are just a few pictures from that magical day.

I wore a short and simple white dress I picked up from a thrift shop, a cute belt I found on Amazon, a flower crown I got from Claire’s in the mall, white flower earrings from a crafter friend of mine, and of course my wedding band we got custom made on Etsy. I also had two green necklaces, one I made, and one I had bought at a renascence fair last year. My husbands outfit was simpler, dressing in jeans and a black t-shirt. Quite a few of our family and friends wore kilts to the reception, to which my husband said that he wasn’t quite ready for the kilt life (yet). 😉

Quite a few people dressed up, including my maid of honors in the picture above. The girls were given fans, as a thank you for all of the amazing work they did in helping to plan, set up, work through, and take down the party. These girls were amazing, and I couldn’t have asked for better women by my side on one of the happiest days of my life. ❤

Flower crowns were also provided for all of our guests, and were worn by almost every lady there, and a few of the men! 😉 This was not only a fun addition for the ladies, but the kids loved it too, and it allowed the people who didn’t dress up to be included in the costumed fun!

Of course, as a surprise for the men, we had an axe-throwing station set up right next to the party so that the men (and women) could unleash their inner Vikings! This was a HUGE attraction at the party, and we got to take it home at the end of the night!

Another game we had that went over way better than expected, was our fighting arena! We had parents and kids, siblings, and couples in the fighting arena to fight to the death! I mean… To lightly hit each other with blow up batons… 😅

Another activity we had was the dancing! Now, I’ll admit, not many people danced except for me and my girlfriends, but my husband and I did share a first dance together! I stood on his feet to dance, since he’s so tall. The dance floor was covered in lilac and rose petals, which looked so cute and romantic. 😍 The lilacs petals were ones that dropped from our flowers for the reception, and the roses were dried from the first ever flowers my husband had ever gotten for me. ❤

Speaking of flowers! Beautiful bouquets of lilacs were placed on every table, giving a sweet aroma to the party, and an everlasting smell of lilacs that will forever remind us of this day. (This was of course before the BBQ grill got there and a good friend of mine started filling the air with smells of pulled pork and chicken on a stick..)

The flowers weren’t the only things on the table. White tablecloths were added to the picknick tables, with green runners laid on top. Then we added the flowers, some fake flickering candles, and the bird favors that a friend of mine crocheted for people to take home.

For food, we had a friend of mine cater the reception with his delicious BBQ. On top of that, my maid of honors brought fruit, cookies, and the drinks. My mother brought the silverware, which she tied up in individual little napkins, and they looked so cute and were so easy for people to grab and go!

For drinks, we had lemonade, sweet and unsweetened tea, and bottles of water with potion labels on them so that people could know who’s drink was who’s. My husband and I (as well as his best men) got horned cups to go with the Viking theme. (Can you guess who’s cup is who’s?)

The final detail I want to share were these cute little birdies! These were made by the same friend who made all of the wedding favor birds, but we weren’t aware that we got personalized ones until the day of! We were so surprised by these bride and groom birds, and they were the best keepsakes we could have gotten for our wedding day! ❤

All in all, we are so happy to have the wedding and reception done and over with, and we had an AMAZING time with close friends and family! We can’t thank our families enough for coming and making the day special for us, as well as the family members and friends who made it possible for us to do this in the first place. ❤ It was truly a magical day that we won’t soon forget, and I am so happy to call this amazing man sitting next to me my husband. 👰🤵🎊🎉
