About a month ago, I went to clean out the chicken cage (sorry for how gross it looks in the picture below) and we found our very first egg!

This was a HUGE accomplishment for our little homestead! The day after this, we found another egg! And then another.. And another!

One egg a day turned into two eggs a day, and we are now getting three eggs a day from our chickens (five hens + 1 rooster). Going out to the chicken coup after a long day and finding eggs from our chickens has been an amazing experience! The eggs have been turned into scrambled eggs, egg sandwiches, and even added to holiday baking!

We LOVE using our fresh eggs, and it’s been a blast to go to the backyard when we need just one more egg for a recipe, and we find one sitting in the coup!

Having chickens in our backyard has certainly been worth it this year, and we can’t wait to share our eggs with our neighbors and family!
