On day one of our vacation, we left super early in the morning (half because of the five-hour drive, and half because we couldn’t sleep from excitement). We left so early, in fact, that we got to watch the beautiful sunrise as we drove.

As the saying goes: ‘Red Sky in the Morning, Sailers take Warning. Red Sky at Night, Sailers Delight!’ Thankfully, we didn’t see any rain or dark clouds throughout the entire drive, but back at home they got some much-needed rain!
We didn’t get to see a lot of the vibrant leaves we were hoping to see on our trip, but we did get some beautiful views of the trees as we drove through mostly wooded roads!

Some of the houses we passed as we got closer to Lake Huron were absolutely beautiful! Here is a picture we took of an old stone house with gorgeous red ivy growing along it! We may not have gotten to see the red leaves, but this house screams ‘Halmark Autumn Movie’!

Right before we arrived at Lake Huron, we took a minute to stretch our legs and found an old antique shop to look around in. We took our time looking around the shop before we got back in the car and finished that last hour of our trip to the coast.
As we got closer to Lake Huron, we got to see the bridge to Canada! It was interesting to see Canada so close, it was truly a stone’s throw away!

Finally, after five hours in the car, we had arrived at our destination for the day.. Fort Gratiot Lighthouse on Lake Huron! We spent an hour or two walking around the lighthouse and surrounding historical buildings, reading the plaques they were posted all over, and then walking along the beach. We skipped rocks in the choppy waters and watched the huge cargo ships pass by us. And finally, we had a picknick by the lighthouse before we made our way to the hotel for the night.
After a long day of driving, walking around, and sightseeing, we drove an hour and a half back to where the hotel was that we booked by the renaissance festival. And although the beds were so uncomfortable, we fell asleep as soon as our heads hit the pillow..
