First Christmas on Our Homestead

~

Merry Christmas Everyone!

The last two days have been a whirlwind of family, presents, and LOTS of sweets and homemade treats! And of course, it was our first Christmas on our homestead and in our new house!

On Christmas Eve, my parents and grandmother came over for cinnamon rolls and bacon crescent rolls that my dad had made. We opened presents, exchanged hugs, and then we had a gingerbread-building contest!

I did a chicken coup, complete with Christmas lights around the top and chicken poop on the ramp (like any normal chicken coup would have). 😉

My grandmother built this beautiful horse stable, with lights, holly, and decorations all around! She didn’t have the time, frosting, or patience to do the other two horses, but she did a great job on the one horse, and the other two horses are ‘sleeping’ inside the stables!

My poor mother had the worst luck with her house… The frosting wouldn’t set up, which caused her house to keep concaving in on itself. She tried to hide the damage with M&M’s, but it just kept getting worse and the frosting was everywhere! Eventually, we all just agreed it was a condemned house with ivy growing up the side and M&M’s partying all around it (my mother didn’t like that idea). She finally got fed up and let me take the picture so that she could be done with it.

And finally, we have my brother’s barn and silo. This ended up being the gingerbread contest winner, which my Aunts judged from their home in the next state over. The animals came pre-done, but he did a great job putting together and decorating the barn and silo, and it looks so festive with the greenery all over!

My parents and grandmother left right after the gingerbread contest, and we had a quiet evening by ourselves. We took a nap, hubby played some video games, and I read my ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas on The Homestead Poem I wrote a couple years ago.

The next morning was Christmas Morning! I got up early, did some chores, and gave the chickens some treats. They got absolutely spoiled with goodies from my family, so they got to run around this morning while I put their new chicken block in their pen. The birds weren’t sure what to do with it at first, but soon went to pecking the block to get some treats off it.

When the boys finally woke up, we all opened our stockings before starting our days.

I filled the boy’s stockings with snacks, practical gifts, and all sorts of goodies. As for mine, the boys were in charge of it… My brother filled my stocking with a BUNCH of chocolate, and hubby got me a spear that wouldn’t quite fit in my stocking. 😅🥰 But I loved it nonetheless!

After doing a few more chores around the house, hubby and I got dressed and started getting around for Christmas morning at his family’s house. Of course, I dressed up in my most festive Christmas dress for the day!

Hubby said that the tree glasses were a bit ‘too’ much, so I left those at home. Everyone loved the Christmas tree outfit! I sewed bells onto my dress, had bells on my necklaces and bracelets, and my candy-cane earrings lit up when I pressed the buttons on the back of them. I loved walking around and hearing myself jingle with every step!

We spent all morning/afternoon at hubby’s grandparents house, celebrating with family, eating amazing food, and exchanging gifts with loved ones.

After getting home, I let the chickens out again and both neighbors came out to wish me a Merry Christmas! I gave them both eggs from the chickens and homemade fudge as a little Christmas gift, and one of the neighbors gave us some chocolates! We honestly have such amazing neighbors, and they have to put up with so much crowing from our rooster! So we always make sure they get plenty of eggs in return! 😉

All in all, we had an amazing Christmas and Christmas Eve! And the best way to end Christmas Night? My brother, my Hubby, and I watched Red One! We ate snacks from our stockings, we curled up on the couch (my brother sat in the rocking chair), and we laughed our heads off as we watched the funny Christmas movie!

I love my family! And I was so happy to take the time off to spend as much time as I could with them this holiday season! ❤ We have had many more Christmas parties this December, including spending the Winter Solstice with my Aunts from out of town, having a holiday baking party with one of my good friends last week, and a little Christmas party with some of hubby’s friends who came to the house for goodies and presents on the first of December.

This has truly been a happy and wonderous Christmas season in our new house, and I can’t wait for many more Christmases to come. I hope that the rest of you had an amazing Christmas (or whatever holiday you celebrate)!

As always, smile, have an amazing day, and enjoy the new year!
