Starting the Journey into House Hunting

~

We were going to wait another year to do this. But as life often does, a wrench was thrown in our plans, and we had to adapt to our new environment and redo the plans we had for our future.

My fiancé and I are now in the murky and muddy waters of House Hunting. The struggle has been real as we have had to set aside our dreams of a large homestead with plenty of land for plants and animals, for a more ‘realistic’ dream of just having a roof over our heads.

Our Apartment and its new owners have decided that we don’t pay enough for rent as an apartment specifically for poor people with low income. To fix that, they have gotten permission from whoever is in charge of such things, to raise the rent. By a lot.. And we have been informed that it will be raised again in July when it’s time to sign the lease again. Wonderful of them to help themselves to our life savings like that, right? And I could of course pick up some more shifts at work, except that this is an income-based housing we live in. Rent is based off how much we make. So, we are making the same amount, but paying more. So even if I pick up an extra shift, I am literally paying for that shift! That’s fair, right??

Anyways, because of our current circumstances, we are both ready to move onto something better (hopefully). With us getting married just four-ish months from now, and the lease coming up for renewal in July, we are jumping feet first into the black bottomless pit full of broken-down houses and expensive home inspections. But hey, a mortgage would be cheaper than what they plan on raising rent to..!

We have seen a total of 11 houses, and we even put an offer in on one of them! Only to find out through a home inspection that the seller had lied about a LOT of things going into the deal.. House hunting is full of heartache, it’s full of disappointment when you see a house you like online and find out the pictures are from five years ago when it was still habitable, and you start out with so much hope, just to lose it all by the seventh house you see with rotting out windows and holes in the roof from water damage. Most of these houses we see haven’t even been lived in for years! They are bought up for cheap by people who want to flip houses, they are left to sit there until the housing market gets better for the seller, and then they try to pass off these falling down houses as a ‘perfect starter home’ or ‘fixer upper with charm’, when really, they just want easy money from dumb people!

Okay, okay, *takes deep breath* ranting aside.. House hunting isn’t going well.. We still have a few months until we have to be out of this apartment, but with the rent increases, and the fact that they are looking through everyone’s finances for ANY reason to kick them out and get new people in here. We are starting to lose hope.. Then again, that’s what everyone says before they find ‘the perfect house’. 😅🤞 (Fingers crossed!!!)

There will be more of an update when we actually have something to update about. In the meantime, keep your fingers crossed for us!
